MAX Factor Pan-Stik Ultra-Creamy Makeup

Everyone knows Max Factor is responsible for dolling up the unforgettable faces of the original silver screen stars, but did you know that Max Factor actually coined the term "makeup"?

This flashy resume got me psyched to try MAX Factor Pan-Stik Ultra-Creamy Makeup. (The original formula debuted in 1948!) I wanted to love this stick foundation, but it wasn't in the cards.

First, the good: it glides on super smooth, blends evenly and covers like a dream. The full-coverage formula can easily be sheered out with a sponge for a lighter look. With a finish that looks more matte than dewy, it's a rarity in the foundation-stick world. Lastly, the convenience of a stick means foundation gets applied in two seconds, lickety split.

Now for the deal-breaker: you can kiss any hopes of long-wear goodbye. Although this foundation looks pristine for the first two hours, shortly thereafter it begins to break down and visibly "pull apart" on the face. Even when set with powder, by the end of the day it just looks like a hot mess.

While I might throw this on for a quick errand or a short evening out, this isn't going to be my new staple foundation.
